Successful 58th Annual General Meeting - A vibrant institution, a vibrant membership.
On May 27, 2007, the La Inmaculada Credit Union Limited (LICU) held its 58th Annual General Meeting at the Crystal Palace Auditorium. The business session of the meeting was set to start at 10:00 a.m. The early arrivals were privy to the melodious and rhythmic sounds of The All Star Steel Band.
It was heart-warming to see our shareholders arriving at the Crystal Palace before 9:00 a.m. Upon their arrival, all shareholders were greeted by our friendly staff, past and present officers and volunteers. They were all given tickets that would entitle them to their LICU T-shirt and their food. The ticket would also give them the opportunity to win one of the twenty raffles that would be held after the business session. By the time our business session began at 10:29 a.m. we had a full house. The diversity of our membership was proudly on display as persons of all ages mingled together and we really felt like one big family. Our visitors from our sister credit unions across the country all commented on our camaraderie and our closely knit family atmosphere.
After a beautiful rendition of our National Anthem by The All Star Steel Band and our shareholders, the children present were asked to go to the verandah to enjoy special credit union activities and games prepared for them. They would also have opportunity to win shares and prizes. They all had a blast with our volunteers amidst songs, games and dances.
Our business session went well with all the reports of another successful year were shared. This year we had elections for our Board of Directors, our Credit Committee and our Supervisory Committee. Only one person, Mr. Llewelyn Williams, was not up for elections since he was elected at the 57th Annual General Meeting and his term will be up until March 2009. The democratic process was exercised as a nomination came from the floor and was added to the nominations put forth by the Nominating Committee. Ms. Angela Reneau, a representative from the Central Bank, presided over the elections that embodied full participation of our membership. The democratic process was exercised with a show of hands which was counted and verified by representatives of the Central Bank, the Belize Credit Union League and representatives of our sister credit unions. Our newly elected Board of Directors, Supervisory Committee and Credit Committee are as follows:
Board of Directors
- Reynaldo Burgos President
- Amory Jacobs Vice-President
- Ena Martinez Secretary
- Raquel Escalante Assistant Secretary
- Javier Moreno Director
- Abner Peralta Director
- Angel Lopez Director
Supervisory Committee
- Filiberto Canul Chair
- Miriam Sanchez Secretary
- Llewellyn Williams Officer
Credit Committee
- Ricardo Riveroll Chair
- Belinda Chan Secretary
- Earline Smith Officer
After a very interactive and informative business session, the meeting was adjourned at 12:30 p.m. Our shareholders had the opportunity to win twenty attractive prizes in either cash or shares. After all the lucky winners had gone up to receive their prizes, our shareholders were all entitled to food and drinks. Each person with a ticket was entitled to a delicious rice and beans with stew chicken and coleslaw. The success of our credit union and our AGM is all due to the continuous efforts and participation of our shareholders. Our vibrant and thriving institution is a result of our directors, officers, management and staff’s hard work but the driving force that propels us to do our very best is you, our shareholders. The consistent savings, the prompt and timely repayments and the active interest and participation of our shareholders are the heart of our institution. Congratulations to all shareholders for a successful year and AGM and we look forward to seeing you next year to report on hopefully an even better year in review.
